CMLP Today

We are proud to be a part of the Concord community. When creating this municipal utility, our founders believed that local control would mean better utility service. Concord Municipal Light Plant (CMLP) strives to provide our customers with an excellent customer service experience.

Hurricane Sandy & Employee Dedication

Our employees are well trained, enthusiastic and ready to go above and beyond at a moment's notice, as was the case during the incredibly destructive Hurricane Sandy in October 2012. The tree damage from the storm's high winds caused outages affecting 3,500 Concord customers (the worst damage in over 20 years). Our Metering and Customer service teams fielded customer calls for 72 hours, while our engineers and line crew supervisor prioritized and assigned the restoration work.

Line Crews

The line crew worked continuously for the first 75 hours to restore customers' electric service. Over the following several weeks, they continued to perform clean up and permanent repairs. In the end, the storm required more than 2,500 work-hours to field customer calls and repair the storm damage.

Concord Light Broadband

Article 48 (PDF) at the 2013 Town Meeting requested authorization for CMLP to borrow funds to expand its telecommunications operations and bring high-speed Internet service to Concord business and residential customers. Funds borrowed under this article will be repaid through the fees charged to the users of the telecommunications service.

Fiber Optic

Article 48 was approved and Concord Light Broadband provides a 100% fiber optic solution for Internet access that is faster and more reliable than other local options.

Even better, our Internet service comes with the same hometown benefits that Concord's electric customers have enjoyed since 1898; high quality, reliable service that is both affordable and personal.
