Rte. 62/Main Street Footprints Project

Current Status:

100% design plans are complete and have been submitted to MassHighway.   Each of the 82 Right-of-Entrys have been secured and MassHighway has issued a Right-of-Way certificate to allow this project to be advertised.  

At this time, MassHighway indicates that this project may be advertised before the end of August, 2008.

Verizon and Comcast continue to relocate all above ground utilities to underground and expect this work to be completed before September, 2008.

Summary:

Concord's "Footprint Road" Project represents the 2nd phase of a strategically, well-planned 3-phase program, and includes $3.6M of public way improvements for a 1.2 mile section of Main Street (Route 62) in West Concord from Water Street to the Acton town line.   This project currently remains on the FY 2008 TIP.  

FAQ's:

Question:  Are sidewalks included in this project?
Answer:  YES - There will be approximately 1.2 miles of sidewalks included in this project, from Water Street across the bridge to the Acton Town Line.

Question:  Will the wooden utility poles be removed?
Answer:  YES - All wooden utility poles will be removed, including those supporting street lights.  Concord Municipal Light Plant (CMLP) has agreed to install decorative light poles and fixtures in the place of the existing wooden light poles.  Verizon and Comcast will relocate all above ground utilities to underground.

Question:  Are there any drainage improvements or curbing included in this project?
Answer:  YES - The entire length of road included in this project will include drainage improvements and granite curbing, with grass strips separating the edge of road and sidewalk in most cases.

Questions:  Are traffic-calming measures included in this project?
Answer:  YES - The roadway width will not be increased and pavement markings will delineate both the vehicular traffic lanes, bicycle lanes and designated crosswalks at strategic locations, with appropriate signage.

Question:  How long will this project take to complete?
Answer:  At this time the project is scheduled to be advertised by MassHighway in August of 2008, after which time a construction schedule will be developed.  Our goal is to complete this project within one construction season.

Question:  Will trees be removed?
Answer:  YES - The project includes the removal of four public shade trees, which will be replaced by new trees outside the limits of our right-of-way, however, Concord Public Works will work closely with each of the residents abutting this project in a tree-removal and replacement program.

Question:  What will happen to the end of my driveway?
Answer:  The end of each driveway will be sawcut and replaced with a new driveway apron.

Question:  Will the front of my yard be dug up and/or disturbed?
Answer:  82 of the 84 abutters will have minor disturbances on their property frontage, however, all disturbances will be restored to their existing or better pre-construction condition.
