The Patrol Division is headed by a Deputy Chief and provides security and protection for all members of the community. It is the largest division within the Department. Supervisors and officers are assigned to shifts, which provides 24-hr coverage for the community. The Patrol Division has the most important mission in the Department. Officers handle the public's most pressing problems and must make complex decisions almost instantaneously. Foot, motorized and bike patrols are used along with proactive problem solving techniques to assist officers during their encounters with citizens and with controlling and reducing the fear of crime. The Patrol Division is also responsible for traffic and parking related problems and six critical school crossings, which are staffed by crossing guards.
