Recycling Truck
Paul and Bruce
There are two recycling trucks in Concord every day, driven by Paul and Bruce
The Recycling Trucks
There are two separate compartments in both recycling trucks, one for paper and one for commingled containers. Unfortunately the compartments are only about 3 feet wide by 15 inches deep, which limits the drivers' ability to collect large pieces and quantities of cardboard.
A day in the life - Paul and Bruce begin their workday at 6:00 a.m. in West Boylston, MA when they pick up their trucks at the Waste Management garage. They drive the 35 minute drive to Concord and begin their routes by emptying paper toters at the schools and municipal facilities. Curbside collection begins shortly after 7:00. They usually finish their routes around noon. At the end of the day they deliver the recyclable materials they have collected to the Recycling Facility in Auburn, MA, and then return their trucks to the garage. They usually complete their day at around 2:00.
Trash Truck
Carl and Angel
Carl drives the only trash truck for the town, and Angel rides along on the back, helping to pick up all the bags and barrels left at curbside.
The Trash Truck
The trash truck is a rear load packer truck. This truck requires a driver and "picker" who usually rides on the back emptying most of the trash.
A day in the life - Carl and Angel begin their day at 5:00 a.m. in West Boylston where they pick up their truck at the Waste Management garage. They drive the 45 minute drive to Concord and begin their route by emptying dumpsters from schools and municipal facilities. Curbside collection of the 750 households on the route begins at 7:00. Carl and Angel usually complete their route around 2:00. They then drive the nine to thirteen tons of materials they have collected to the Fitchburg Landfill, about a 45 minute drive from Concord, before returning their truck to the West Boylston garage, usually at around 3:00.
