Disposal of Unwanted Medications
Expired or unwanted prescription and over-the-counter medications from households should never be disposed of by flushing them down the toilet or a drain.  Although this method of disposal prevents accidental ingestion, it can cause contamination to the aquatic environment because wastewater treatment systems are not designed to remove many of these medications.

Residents can bring unwanted medication and SHARPS to the semi-annual DropOff events for proper disposal.  Click Here for Details

These colections are a great opportunity for residents to clean out their medicine cabinets and bring all expired or unwanted medications and SHARPS, for proper disposal, with the added benefit of keeping these materials out of the waste stream.

- SHARPS (hypodermic needles, syringes, etc.) – Must be in rigid, tight-sealing, capped container.
- Expired or unwanted medications and drugs (in original container)
- Veterinary medications
                                                                - Vitamins
*NOTE: It’s permissible to use a marker to cross off your name on the prescription containers, but medication information must be legible.

Between events, residents can use an unwanted medications disposal mail-back program, such as the one offered by Sharps Compliance Inc. 800-772-5657.
