Sharps (hypodermic needles, syringes, etc.) should never be disposed of with household trash.
Residents can bring Sharps and unwanted medication to the semi-annual DropOff events for proper disposal.
This free event is a great opportunity for residents to clean out their medicine cabinets and bring all expired or unwanted medications and Sharps, for proper disposal, with the added benefit of keeping these materials out of the waste stream.
WHAT TO BRING:
- Sharps (hypodermic needles, syringes, etc.) – Must be in rigid, tight-sealing, capped container.
- Expired or unwanted medications and drugs (in original container)
- Veterinary medications
*NOTE: It’s permissible to use a marker to cross off your name on the prescription containers, but medication information must be legible.
Other Options for Disposal:
Between events, residents can dispose of their medical syringes, sharps and lancets, at the Concord Police Station, 219 Walden St., 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
There is also a SHARPS disposal mail-back program, such as the one offered by Sharps Compliance Inc. 800-772-5657. www.sharpsinc.com. Also, please note that CVS and RiteAid sell SHARPS containers with prepaid mailing labels.
Please contact concord Public Works at 978 318-3240 for additional information.
