Concord Public Works manages a drop-off program for yard waste recycling that is open to all Concord residents. Compost and wood chips made from collected yard waste are available for free to all Concord residents (see below).
The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection has banned the disposal of yard waste at all landfills and incinerators in Massachusetts, so no resident should be disposing of yard waste, in any amount, with their regular trash. Some private haulers may provide separate curbside collection service for yard waste. Concord’s municipal collection program does not collect yard waste at the curb.

Materials Preparation:
Rakeable materials may be placed in paper leaf bags or barrels. If residents choose to use plastic bags they must empty contents from bags and take empty plastic bags home for proper disposal.

Christmas Tree Recycling
Christmas Trees may be brought to the Composting Site on the dates indicated below. If you miss one of these scheduled events Christmas Trees may be brought to the Composting Site whenever it is open April through November. Wreaths and garlands can not be recycled because of the wire used to shape them. Please dispose of wreaths and garlands with your regular trash.
Styrofoam Block may be brought to the compost site packed in clear plastic bags on Saturday January 2 between 9-3 and on Saturday, January 9 between 9-3.
Styrofoam Peanuts should be brought to your local UPS or Mailbox store for re-use.

Concord Public Works sells compost bins for home composting of leaves, grass, and foodscraps. See Backyard Composting for details.

FREE Compost and Wood Chips
Concord residents may pickup up free compost and woodchips made from Concord yard waste whenever the Composting Site is open. Bring your own shovel and barrels or other containers.
