Yoga  is a commonly known generic term for the physical, mental, and spiritual practices or disciplines which originated in ancient India with a view to attain a state of permanent peace. Long-term yoga practitioners reported musculo–skeletal and mental health improvements. Yoga is used to alleviate health problems, reduce stress and make the spine supple. Yoga is also used as a complete exercise program and physical therapy routine.

Long-term yoga practitioners have reported musculoskeletal and mental health improvements. Regular yoga practice has been shown to improve mood and anxiety. Some other benefits that come from practicing Yoga are reducing high blood pressure, improve symptoms of heart failure, enhance cardiac rehabilitation, and lower cardiovascular risk factors.

The Council on Aging currently offers a Chair Yoga class.

Yoga is not about performance or competition.  Every body has a different threshold of flexibility and endurance, comparisons are not relevant.  Annie's students find that her classes help improve balance, increase focus and clarity, and help to manage stress and create peace of mind.  After just a short time practicing Chair Yoga, students notice increased muscle strength and flexibility.  The breathing exercises which are such an important part of Chair Yoga, help improve circulation.  Students report that they walk out of class with a much improved overall mood.

There are a variety of Yoga classes offered here at Harvey Wheeler.  Each class costs $5.00 payable directly to the instructor at the time of the class.  No need to sign up.

The schedule is as follows:

Monday at 9:30 AM - Gentle Yoga, utilizing both a mat and a chair, instructed by Annie Gray.
