Playing Fields A major initiative in 2006 concerns the development of new playing fields at Concord-Carlisle Regional High School. The Regional School Committee voted to endorse the concept of new playing fields at the High School, and the Selectmen have voted to recommend that $1.5 million in CPA funds be allocated to the playing fields project. The proposal includes the creation of two new fields with an all-weather surface, together with the up-grading of an existing under-utilized field that is in poor condition. The all-weather fields will greatly increase the opportunity for play in all seasons, without damaging the natural grass fields, and the location of these fields at the High School ensures that they will receive maximum utilization for the significant investment that is being made. As with our investment in other recreational facilities, the public funds will be matched by significant private fund-raising to help minimize the impact of these capital investments on the taxpayer. Swim Center The new Beede Swim & Fitness Center opened in April to wide acclamation. Residents signing up for memberships far exceeded original expectations. In its first months of operation, the Center became a focal point for people of all ages to get together for some exercise and fun. It is exciting to have the High School swim & dive team actually hosting home meets, and see friends and neighbors chatting in the lounge area after, or perhaps in lieu of, an invigorating work-out. What a wonderful addition to the community this donated building has become. Enormous credit must be given to the Recreation staff for opening and operating the facility in such a welcoming and professional fashion. |
