Town Manager
Energy Efficiency
In December, the Town received an extraordinary gift of funds from the Sawyer Trust to support energy efficiency improvements, recycling and water conservation in Town buildings. More than $1.7 million has been made available for these purposes. The Comprehensive Sustainable Energy Committee will be accepting applications and reviewing proposals for the use of these funds.

The Sawyer Trust also provided an endowment of $300,000 that will be used to help make capital repairs and improvements at the Beede Swim & Fitness Center. The Trust was a major contributor to the Beede Center project, which completed a highly successful year of operation in June of 2007.

The Concord Municipal Light Plant has been promoting energy conservation through a variety of means, including the use of Electrical Thermal Storage. ETS units draw power off the “grid” at off-peak periods and stores the energy as heat for later use during periods of high-demand. These units help make the Town’s electrical system more efficient. One of the most innovative applications of this technology was the installation of an ETS unit in the Town-owned Harrington House, a colonial-era residence located on Harrington Avenue.
