Water Main Project - Old Road to Nine Acre Corner
Update - August 22, 2007:

Water main installation and the first course of trench paving is now complete.  Final pavement patching for the water main project will take place during the weeks of August 20th and 27th.  Cleanup and restoration of all disturbed areas will continue into the beginning of September.  The Town plans to perform final paving on Dover Street through the Town's Roads Program.  More information on the Dover Street paving can be obtained from the Engineering Division (978-318-3210).

Background:

This year, the Concord Water and Sewer Division will be installing a new water main in the southern portion of town.  This work is scheduled to begin on Monday, June 11th and be completed in October 2007.  The purpose of this project is to install a water transmission main from the White Pond Well, on Hemlock Street, to the new Deaconess Water Treatment Plant, located off of Old Road to Nine Acre Corner (ORNAC).  This main will allow the White Pond Well water to receive treatment at the new Water Treatment Plant, prior to entering the municipal water distribution system.  The end result will be enhanced water quality throughout town, but especially in the neighborhoods near the White Pond Well.

The new transmission main will be installed along the following route: Hemlock Street to Varick Street, to Dover Street, to Plainfield Road, to Powder Mill Road, to Peter Bulkeley Road, to a cross-country easement to Nut Meadow Crossing, to ORNAC.  In addition, while work is occurring in the cross-country easement and on Nut Meadow Crossing, the Town is taking that opportunity to replace and upsize the existing water distribution main in that location.  The existing 8-inch main will be replaced with a new 12-inch main, improving both water quality and pressure in that neighborhood.
